Botanical print on silk. Mounted on a 7/8-inch deep wood panel
10 x 10 inches
This piece was dyed with procion dye (a low-impact synthetic dye) and printed with assorted foliage.
Eco-printing is a form of natural dyeing where color is imprinted onto fabric using the pigments present in leaves and other plant material. Fabric is tightly bundled with the plants and steamed to create unique prints. Some fabrics are also dyed with natural dyes, which may be derived from leaves, flowers, roots, bark, and even insects. Most of the plants I use for printing are gathered by hand in Minnesota.
